SDI Biocarbon Solutions Log-Cutting Ceremony
SDI Biocarbon Solutions celebrated the successful operation of its biocarbon production facility with an event on April 15, 2026. This state-of-the-art $300 million facility employs over 80 team members and is planned to be one of the largest renewable biocarbon production facilities globally with an annual production capability expected to exceed 200,000 metric tons.
First Pellets Produced
Steel Dynamics (SDI) is actively reducing the carbon footprint of our steelmaking operations by utilizing renewable biocarbon produced at our SDI Biocarbon Solutions (SBS) facility as a replacement for anthracite coal. This initiative supports significant reductions in Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions at our steelmaking operations and represents a key component of our broader decarbonization strategy.
Substrate Produced
SDI Biocarbon Solutions uses high-temperature pyrolysis to convert sustainably sourced biomass to a high-purity biocarbon.
